Best-selling author Annie Garthwaite reveals the story of Cecily Neville.

Richard III’s mother, Cecily Neville was matriarch of the House of York during the Wars of the Roses and one of the most powerful ladies of medieval England. Born in the year of Agincourt she lived for 80 years, mothered two kings, led her family through civil war, and stood firm in both victory and defeat.

Reading from her acclaimed novel, Annie will reveal Cecily in all her complex glory: Wife, mother, politician, traitor, fighter and – ultimately – survivor. She’ll talk about Cecily’s life, her powerful ambitions and, of course, her support for her most famous son.

On publication by Penguin, CECILY was named a ‘top pick’ by The Times and Sunday Times and was listed as a ‘Best Book of 2021’ by independent bookshops and Waterstones, who commissioned an exclusive edition. In paperback, it is an Independent Fiction Bestseller.

Tickets are £8 and can now only be purchased on site during the Festival.
