The hugely popular Bosworth Medieval Festival returns and….

The two-day event – which attracts thousands of visitors, re-enactors and traders from across the UK will take place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th August this year, at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre. The event runs 10am to 5pm both days and Tickets are valid for both days.

Please note that during the Festival weekend the Heritage Centre, Tithe Barn Cafe and Toilets are open to Festival ticket holders only.

What can you expect? 

Main event arena

The event will feature battle re-enactments by the Wars of the Roses Federation – including an earlier battle of the Wars of the Roses (TBC) each morning and The Battle of Bosworth as the finale on both days…

Members of Destrier will be returning with their fascinating Death of Richard III presentation, which was a huge hit with the crowd in 2019 and 2022…

Get stuck in with our bill drill suitable for children and adults alike…

While not busy in the main arena or otherwise active, the reenactors will welcome you to view their camps and talk to them about their hobby…

In the Cabins near Ambion

Craft activities, including Yorkist or Lancastrian rose making, a display of Leicestershire Archaeological collections for handling, and a foray into life in late 15th century Punjab when Sikhism was born.

In the Heritage Centre and courtyards

On both days there will be three talks and a Q&A session in the Heritage Room from renowned historians and authors including Nathen Amin, Matthew Lewis, Nicola Tallis, Annie Garthwaite and Philippa Langley. There is an extra charge for these talks. There will also be book sales and signings by the authors.

Mini guided walks will set the scene of the Battle of Bosworth, great for history buffs and those who want to know what all the fuss it about!

 

Staving off your hunger and thirst

  • The Tithe Barn 1485 tea room open 10am – 4pm  Festival menu to come soon.
  • Camperccino selling hot and cold drinks, Paninis and cakes, with veggie options and alternative milks. 
  • Del Busso Ice creams 
  • The Donut Company and Coffee bar
  • Oregano Kitchen Pizzas selling vegetarian and vegan options as well as meat
  • The Chilli Guys selling a range of spicy and not so spicy Indian food
  • The Stagger Inn Real Ale Bar serving a range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks 

Accessibility at the festival

Much of the Festival site is on agricultural fields and therefore access to certain areas of the site can be difficult for wheelchair users, but are working on making the whole site as accessible as possible. Thursday 22nd August :  Rose Laying Ceremony: 11.00 am

On the anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth you are invited to join local dignitaries for a commemorative Rose Laying Ceremony at the Bosworth Sundial Memorial. We will remember all those that died on both sides during the Battle of Bosworth on this day in 1485.

Members of the public are warmly welcomed to attend and are invited to lay their own roses.
