Best-selling author Toni Mount will explore the origins and traditions of the Medieval Christmas in this entertaining, illustrated talk.
In the middle-ages, Christmas was celebrated with as much enthusiasm as it is now, perhaps more so, as the belief in God and the birth of Christ were very real to everyone.
But how do you celebrate without turkey, roast potatoes, Christmas crackers or greetings cards and what about Santa?
We would recognise many aspects of Christmas back then, with quite a few other traditions dating from this period – Christmas carols and the Christmas feast, the invention of mince pies and even the first pantomime dame.
